California is currently in the midst of a water conservation crisis, and the City of Corona is taking this as an opportunity to educate area residents in a fun and interactive way! Tomorrow at city hall, join the Department of Water and Power for the 2015 Corona Garden Festival! The event takes place from 10 AM through 2 PM at City Hall on S. Vicentia and is free to attend. For Montecito at Dos Lagos residents, City Hall is about a 15-minute drive away.
The Garden Festival features a variety of family-friendly activities, including arts and crafts, a scavenger hunt and story time for the kids. For the adults in attendance, demonstrations about composting and drip irrigation, and information about what plants grow best in our climate will be presented. Many of the vendors present at the event, which include retailers and local community organizations, will be distributing giveaways and prizes, as well!
Something that the whole family can enjoy is a tour of the California-Friendly Demonstration Garden. This example garden showcases all of the things learned from the presentations - what types of plants grow best in Corona, drip irrigation, and signage identifying the types of plants that are grown there. The Demonstration Garden will be divided into 4 areas:
- Ornamental Grass Garden: features low-maintenance and low-water plants.
- Sub Tropical Garden: low to moderate water use plants that complement commonly used housing architecture in Corona.
- Mediterranean/California Garden: fine-textured plants in a myriad of colors that are low-maintenance.
- Parkway and Hardscape: presents alternatives to turf grass.
Spring is the perfect season to get informed about ways to keep your garden, and our state's water supply, growing and flowing! This event is sure to inspire you to curate your own garden at home or in your apartment! Get ready to get your green thumb!
